Does the ceasefire decision in Syria also include Afrin?
Syria's permanent representative of the United Nations, Bashar al-Jaafari, said that the ceasefire decision should cover Afrin as well.
After the vote at the United Nations, while the debate began that does the ceasefire will affect Turkiye's Afrin operation or not, Syria's UN Permanent Representative Bashar al-Jaafari stated that the ceasefire should include Afrin as well. Jaafari claimed that the coalition forces, Israel and Turkiye, occupied Syrian.
After the vote, the UN permanent representatives of Russia and Kuwait also explained that the ceasefire should include the Afrin operation.
"I will not interpret it. You read the resolution and interpret it yourself. You heard what the Syrian Ambassador said on that. In the resolution is said “throughout Syria," said Russia's permanent representative of the United Nations Vassily Nebenzia on the questions asked by journalists whether the 30-day cease-fire resolution at the Security Council included Afrin.
Mansour al-Otaiba, UN Standing Representative of Kuwait, who drafted the draft resolution together with Sweden, said: "The bill demands that all parties in Syria end the conflict without delay, very clear."
The Turkish authorities underlining the resolution would not cover Afrin operation that they are not the conflicting parties in Syria, Turkiye's Afrin operation of that against terrorism, operations being executed according to the decision of the UN is that protects the right to self-defense.
