Facebook removes Ethiopian PM post for inciting violence

Facebook has removed a post by Ethiopia's prime minister Abiy Ahmed that call on citizens to rise up and bury the Tigray forces.

“At Meta, we remove content from individuals or organizations that violates our Community Standards, no matter who they are,” spokeswoman Emily Cain for Facebook's parent company, Meta, said.

In the now-deleted post, Abiy urged citizens to mobilize by holding any weapon or capacity.

“The obligation to die for Ethiopia belongs to all of us,” Abiy said.

The Ethiopian government declared a national state of emergency this week after Tigray forces took control of key cities over the weekend.

Tigray War began just before midnight on 3 November 2020 in the Tigray Region of Ethiopia.

At least 10,000 people have died, and war rape has become a “daily” occurrence, according to human rights groups.
