House sales in Turkey decreases by 17% in August: TurkStat

In August, 141 thousand 400 houses were sold in Turkey, the country’s statistical agency (TurkStat) said in a statement on Tuesday.

In Turkey, house sales decreased by 17.0% in August compared to the same month of the previous year and became 141 thousand 400. İstanbul had the highest share with 17.2% and 24 thousand 286 house sales.

The followers of İstanbul were Ankara with 13 thousand 642 house sales and İzmir with 7 thousand 731 house sales with the share of 9.6% and 5.5% respectively. The provinces with the lowest number of sales were Hakkari with 16 and Ardahan with 28 house sales.

Mortgaged house sales became 27 thousand 375

In Turkey, the mortgaged house sales decreased by 64.0% in August compared to the same month of the previous year and became 27 thousand 375. The mortgaged house sales had 19.4% share of all house sales. İstanbul had the highest share with 20.6% and 5 thousand 636 mortgaged sales. The province with the lowest number of mortgaged sales was Hakkari with 1 sale.

Other house sales became 114 thousand 25

In Turkey, other house sales increased by 20.8% in August compared to the same month of the previous year and became 114 thousand 25. In the other house sales, İstanbul was the first province with 18 thousand 650 sales and 16.4% share. Other house sales had 76.8% share of all house sales in İstanbul. Ankara was the second province with 10 thousand 178 sales. Ankara was followed by İzmir with 6 thousand 65 sales. The province with the lowest number of other house sales was Hakkari with 15 sales.

42 thousand 639 houses were sold for the first time

In Turkey, first time sales decreased by 18.2% in August compared to the same month of the previous year and became 42 thousand 639. First time sales had 30.2% share of all house sales in Turkey. The highest number of first-time sales was in İstanbul with 6 thousand 375 sales and share with 15.0%. The followers of İstanbul were Ankara with 2 thousand 932 house sales and İzmir with a thousand 972 house sales.

Second hand house sales became 98 thousand 761

In Turkey, second hand house sales decreased by 16.5% in August compared to the same month of the previous year and became 98 thousand 761. In the second-hand sales, İstanbul was the first province with 17 thousand 911 sales and 18.1% share. Share of the second-hand sales was 73.8% in İstanbul in total house sales. Ankara was the second province with 10 thousand 710 sales and Ankara was followed by İzmir with 5 thousand 759 sales.

Houses sales decreased by 21.7% in January-August 2021

In January-August period, 801 thousand 995 houses were sold and decreased by 21.7% compared to the same period of the previous year. Mortgaged sales were 152 thousand 96 and decreased by 67.9%. Other house sales were 649 thousand 899 and increased by 17.9%. In this period, houses sold for the first time decreased by 23.5% and became 243 thousand 189. Second-hand house sales decreased by 20.9% and became 558 thousand 806.

In August, 5 thousand 866 houses were sold to foreigners

House sales to foreigners increased by 50.7% in August compared to the same month of the previous year and became 5 thousand 866. İstanbul was the first province with 2 thousand 729 sales to foreigners. The followers of İstanbul were Antalya with 976 house sales, Ankara with 400, Mersin with 242 and Yalova with 233 house sales to foreigners.

In January-August period, house sales to foreigners increased by 47.6% compared to the same period of the previous year and became 30 thousand 849.

House sales were mostly made to Iran citizens according to nationalities

In August, Iran citizens bought 911 houses from Turkey. The followers of Iran citizens were Iraq with 900 house sales, Russia with 451, Afghanistan with 313 and Kuwait citizens with 264 house sales.
