Joint plan from the UN and Turkiye for Syrian refugees

A "Regional Refugee and Resistance Plan" was prepared between the UN and Turkiye in order to improve the living conditions of refugees who escaped from the civil war in their countries and took refuge in Turkiye.

A new step was taken in order to improve the living conditions of the refugees who had to migrate to other countries due to the civil war that started in Syria.

The "207-2018 Regional Refugee and Resistance Plan (3RP)" has been prepared between the United Nations (UN) and Turkiye in order for refugees to live on better terms.

The Turkiye part of the plan was shared publicly in Ankara. In this section, $ 3.5 billion in funds was called for refugees. The fund is expected to be used for one million 800 thousand Turkish people who live in cities where refugees settled, and including 2 million 800 thousand refugees.

The 3RP, which is a regional intervention plan worth $ 4.69 billion covering 5 countries affected by the Syrian crisis, is based on priorities such as protection, food safety, education, health, basic needs and livelihoods.

Speaking at a meeting where the plan was announced, Deputy Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Cihad Erginay said that the funds raised to date for the settlement of the Syrian crisis are inadequate.

Erginay emphasized that a common attitude towards a refugee problem, a result-oriented approach should be put forth, and the 3RP targeted this. Erginay voicing that they spent 25 billion dollars in Turkey for the solution of the refugee problem and said, "Our goal is not to create new spaces for Syrian refugees but to improve their living conditions." 3RP's future funding will bring a much broader support to the Syrian refugees, it will be very satisfactory for the expenses."

Number of registered refugees in Turkiye: 2 million 880 thousand

Fatih Özer, the Vice President of the Prime Ministry Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD), gave information that 260 thousand 213 with the status of "temporary protection" totally 2 million 880 thousand were registered as Syrians in Turkiye.

Irena Vojackova Sollorano, United Nations Development Program (UNDP) Resident Representative in Turkiye, said that the 3RP is a global first for the UN in the context of crisis intervention by bringing together humanitarian and development partners to form a joint plan at regional level.

"An urgent response is expected from the international community"

"The 3RP is a call to actively support the government and all related organizations to respond to the urgent needs of refugees and to strengthen resilience in the medium and long term, and to ensure that urgent action is taken from the international community," Sollorano said.
