Moving of 650-year-old Zeynel Bey Shrine completed successfully

The 650-year-old Zeynel Bey Shrine located in Hasankeyf, the ancient city of Turkiye’s Batman, which will be buried under the waters with Ilisu Dam, has been successfully completed with the special system to move to the New Cultural Park Area.

In Hasankeyf, which has a history of about 12 thousand years will be kept under the Ilisu Dam, historical works have begun to be moved. The 650-year-old Zeynel Bey Shrine, one of the most important historical monuments of Hasankeyf, which would remain under the Ilisu Dam, was moved to the New Cultural Park Area in the early hours of the morning by special system.

Zeynel Bey Mausoleum, which has been successfully relocated, is also the first historical monument to be transported in Turkiye.

The transportation process cost about 16 million Turkish Liras, and the transfer of the mausoleum carried on the special platform with a 360 degree turnable wheeled hydraulic system.

The mausoleum weighing a hundred thousand tons was transported for 2 kilometers along on the private road for about 5 hours.

History of Zeynel Bey Shrine

Zeynel Bey Shrine is the only work left by the ‘Ak-Qoyunlu’ in Hasankeyf in 1462-1482. It is stated that Zeynel Bey is the son of Uzun Hasan, the ruler of Ak-Qoyunlu, and lost his life in the Battle of Otlukbasi (1473 M.), which took place between Ak-Qoyunlu and Ottomans. (M.
