NSC Statement: Operation in Syria will continue until it has reached its objectives

The written statement issued after Turkish National Security Council (NSC) meeting chaired by President Erdoğan at the Presidential Complex.

The written statement, issued after the National Security Council (NSC) meeting chaired by Turkish President Erdoğan, read: "All aspects of Operation Peace Spring were reviewed. It was stressed that the operation, which contributes to the restoration of peace and stability in the region, will continue until it has reached its objectives, and that all kinds of measures are taken to avoid any harm to civilians."

Important domestic and foreign developments that are of close concern to Turkey’s security were discussed during the meeting, the written statement issued following the NSC meeting read.

The council was briefed on the fight determinedly conducted both at home and abroad against all organizations, especially the PKK/PYD-YPG, FETO and DAESH, which threaten Turkey’s national unity and solidarity as well as its permanence, and the operations successfully being conducted were thoroughly discussed according to the statement.

Noting that all aspects of "Operation Peace Spring", conducted within the framework of United Nations Security Council resolutions, the Adana Agreement and the right of self-defense, were reviewed, the statement read: "It was stressed that the operation, which contributes to the restoration of peace and stability in the region, will continue until it has reached its objectives, and that all kinds of measures are taken to avoid any harm to civilians."

"Turkey is ready for any kind of cooperation in the fight against DAESH organization"

The statement further read: "It was stated that the countries party to the agreements signed to establish a safe zone in Syria are expected to immediately complete their works they have launched to clear the area, including Tal Rifat and Manbij regions, of terrorists. The international community was called on to support Turkey, which aims to enable our Syrian brothers and sisters to voluntarily and safely return to their homes and lands without facing any religious or ethnic discrimination and to find peace and prosperity as soon as possible. It was reiterated that Turkey, which does not evade any burden or responsibility in the fight against terror, carries out the fight against DAESH in a principled and resolved manner, and is ready for any kind of cooperation."

Current regional and global issues, in particular Cyprus and Eastern Mediterranean, were also addressed, and the council was briefed on the foreign visits, the statement read.

The statement further noted: "Resolutions on unfounded claims about the 1915 events that have no historical and legal grounds were strongly condemned, and it was brought to the attention of the international community that it was high time to bring facts to light."
