Palestinian Captive Movement suspends intended hunger strike

The Palestinian Prisoner Society (PPS) said that the Palestinian Captive Movement on Wednesday suspended its decision to start its mass hunger strike on Friday after the Israeli prison service responded to their demands.

“After the intensive punitive measures that were taken by the israeli occupation following the Gilboa prison operation, the prisoners sensed the seriousness of the situation and decided to join forces to hold a mass open-ended hunger strike in all jails, with the participation of all factions,” PPS explained

Soon later, the occupation authority decided to reverse all the measures it had taken recently against the prisoners after it read deeply and with concern the state of national cohesion among the prisoners that could stir up a massive popular uprising against it, PPS added.

PPS emphasized that the prisoners’ battle for their rights and dignity “achieved its goals fully before it even started.”

The Palestinian Captive Movement yesterday announced its decision to defend its rights and dignity through launching a mass open-ended hunger strike as of next Friday under the slogan “The battle of defending the right.”

It said the step was in response to arbitrary suppressive measures taken against the prisoners in recent days following the Gilboa escape operation.
