Thousands of anti-government protesters take to streets in El Salvador
The protesters gathered in San Salvador, the nation’s capital, to protest the controversial decision by the government to make the cryptocurrency Bitcoin legal tender in El Salvador.
In June, the Bitcoin Law was passed by the Legislative Assembly of El Salvador, giving the cryptocurrency bitcoin the status of legal tender within El Salvador after September 7th. It was proposed by President Nayib Bukele.
The demonstrators wore T-shirts that read “NO To Bitcoin” to show their displeasure with the legislation.
