“We want to be noticed in every aspect of life”

“We want to be noticed in every aspect of life”

Disabilities people in Batman, describing the problems and troubles they have experienced in the Week of Disabilities, said that they want to take part in every aspect of life, stating that they need to be remembered every day, not just one day.

The obstacles in Batman, telling ILKHA the tough life conditions they experience on the occasion of the 10th-16th May International Week of Persons with Disabilities, stated that they need to be remembered every day, not just in one day, and they wanted the obstacles in front of them to be removed by the government, local governments and society.

Turkiye Visually Impaired Association Batman Branch President Adnan Sapancı wants the authorities not to forget the disabilities in the public and physical areas by expressing that the disabled people should be accepted as a part of the society.

“There are many problems in the physical sense of the obstacles,” said Sapancı and added “Accessibility and transportability are at the beginning of these problems. There is no mention of health, education or social life in a city that does not have access and transport. Access and transportation in our country and especially in our city is causing a very troubling situation. We are fighting for it. Unfortunately, institutions are insensitive to these issues.”

“There is no such thing as disabled, there are obstacles,” said Sapancı. “If the obstacles in front of the disabled people have been removed, I believe there will be no disability in the society. We, like every citizen, are struggling to exist as parts of the society in order to adhere to our business, our school, our hospitals, our friends and social life."
