"Enosis" caused crises in Cyprus negotiations

Talks on reunification between Turkish and Greek Cypriot leaders in Cyprus were halted.

The last meeting of negotiations, which began in January under the auspices of the UN for the settlement of the Cyprus problem, was halted in the wake of the Greek Cypriot leader Nikos Anastasiadis leaving the meeting room.

Turkish Cypriot President Mustafa Akıncı stated that in the framework of Cyprus negotiations the Greek Cypriot leader Anastasiadis left the conference after post-tension on memorial rites of the 1950 referendum.

Akıncı said that Anastasiadis shut the door with great anger and said "I have nothing to say."

It was noted that the tension was related with the annual memorial of referendum [Enosis plebisit] that was performed by Greek schools on the unification in 1950.

When Mustafa Akıncı wants the cancel this decision at the UN premises in the intermediate region, Anastasiadis left the door by shutting the door after he said "There is nothing to say”. "There was nothing more to do at this point, because the meeting had to be done in a respectful atmosphere, and we left the meeting and returned." said Akıncı.

Akıncı had previously condemned the law that made memorandum compulsory and warned that it threatened peace negotiations. Anastasiadis stated that this is only a historical memorial, but that it has by no means deflected the island as a federation from the goal of reunification. (ILKHA)
