Germany rejects calls for extradition of putschist officers
After the July 15 coup attempt, Turkiye’s call for the recruitment of putschist officers who applied for asylum to Germany was refused.
The call of National Defense Minister Fikri Işık to the German for the application of the 40 putschist officers not to be evaluated who had filed asylum applications to Germany after the 15 July coup attempt and which were stated to be FETOs, was rejected by German authorities.
The German judge and the German authorities should take this very seriously and certainly not accept the applications for asylum said Işık and added, "It is important to note that the German judiciary and the German authorities must not accept asylum applications. It is unacceptable for Germany to protect members of a structure which attempted for coup."
German Interior Minister Thomas de Maiziere said in his statement that they had rejected requests for asylum applications of putschist officers not to be evaluated.
Maiziere, who argues that this is not a special practice for Turkiye, "The Federal Office for Migration and Integration gives its decisions solely on the basis of the law, which is certainly true for the applicants of the Turks."
German Interior Ministry Spokesman Johannes Dimroth, who spoke at the beginning of the week, stated that the number of asylum applications made from Turkiye to Germany has increased from 1,700 in 2015 to 5,700 in 2016.
