Çetin Dam begins to impound the waters of the Botan River in southeast of Turkey

Turkish Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Bekir Pakdemirli announced that the Cetin Dam, the largest dam in Turkey and Europe, has begun to impound water.

Pakdemirli said that the Turkey and Europe's largest dam, according to the Roller Compacted Concrete (RCC) type, Çetin Dam on the Tigris River was completed and it began to impound water.

Çetin Dam has the hardfill main dam type, 165 m height, 4.600.000 m3 dam value. The main dam of Çetin Dam, which has the RCC (Roller Compacted Concrete) volume, will be the largest dam in the Europe among its kind.

Also, Çetin Dam has totally 3+1 numbers of francis type turbine that provide total 420 MW installed power and annually 1.174,74 GWh energy generation. When the construction completed, Çetin Dam will generate sufficient energy to supply the needs of 6 provinces like the size of Siirt.

The dam is planned to be taken into operation in 2020.
