In press remarks on Wednesday, member of HAMAS’s political bureau Maher Obeid said that the demolition campaign in the Jerusalem district of Silwan is part of zionist occupation regime's practical steps to Judaize the holy city and carry out its annexation plans.

Obeid added that zionist occupation regime's persistence in demolishing homes and displacing the Palestinians in Jerusalem entails an all-out national effort to deter zionist regime from putting pressures on the Jerusalemite people to leave their city.

He stressed the need to protect the Palestinian presence in Silwan and prevent Jewish settlers from encroaching into it, describing Silwan as “the Aqsa Mosque’s southern portal.”

The HAMAS official also called on the Arab and Muslim worlds to support the Jerusalemite people’s steadfastness in the holy city and fight the battle of defending Jerusalem and its Islamic identity.
