Haneyya phones Erdogan to seek help against coronavirus

Head of Hamas’s political bureau Ismail Haneyya on Friday talked over the phone with Turkish president Recep Erdogan and discussed with him ways of helping the besieged Gaza Strip take effective countermeasures against coronavirus.

“The talk focused on making efforts and providing help for the besieged Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip to confront the dangers from coronavirus, which has spread globally,” the Hamas Movement said in a press release on Friday.

According to Hamas, Erdogan expressed his country’s readiness to provide virus-free Gaza with all forms of assistance to help it prevent any spread of this pandemic among the population.

The two sides also discussed other issues of mutual interest, especially with regard to the Turkish support for the Palestinian people in general.

Although no coronavirus infections have yet been detected in Gaza, according to the health ministry there, outstanding local efforts have been ongoing since early March to combat any potential outbreak of the pandemic among the residents.
