Saudi Arabia suspends 'Umrah' visits due to coronavirus outbreak

Saudi Arabia has suspended entry to the country for purpose of Umrah and visiting of The Prophet's Mosque temporarily, the country's Foreign Ministry announced in a written statement on Thursday.

Saudi Arabia also suspended entry to the country for tourist visas for those coming from the countries in which the spread of new coronavirus (COVID-19) is a danger, according to the statement.

The statement underlined that these procedures are temporary, is subject to continuous evaluation by the authorities.

Tourism in Saudi Arabia still largely involves religious pilgrimages. Mecca receives over three million pilgrims a year during the month of Dhu al-Hijjah in Hajj, and around two million during the month of Ramadan to perform Umrah.
