“Today, a total of 38 soldiers and policemen of the Kabul Administration were released from prisons of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan in Farah and Nimroze provinces, “ he said.

“They were sent to their families after handing them clothes and Afs: 5,000 for transportation fare,” he added.

On the other hand, Mohammad Shuaib Sabit, the governor for Farah province claimed that some of the released persons were civilians.

The prisoner swap is part of the US-Taliban peace agreement which was signed in Doha, the capital of Qatar, on February 29 to facilitate the intra-Afghan dialogue for finding a political solution to Afghanistan's prolonged civil war and withdrawal of the US forces from the country.

The deal requires the Afghan government to release 5,000 Taliban prisoners by the start of the talks, in a prisoner exchange for 1,000 government soldiers held by the Taliban.
