The number of confirmed coronavirus cases increases to 6 in Iraq

Iraq Health Ministry announced a new case of novel coronavirus disease in Baghdad the country' capital, on Thursday.

In a statement, the Iraqi Health Ministry said that it has detected a new case of coronavirus for an Iraqi young man who returned to Baghdad from Iran.

"He was kept in quarantine in accordance with the international procedures," the added.

Iraqi authorities deciced to shut down all universities and schools for 10 days, and imposed travel ban for nine nations, including Iran, South Korea, Japan, Thailand, and Kuwait.

As the death toll from coronavirus outbreak rose to 2,804, the number of confirmed cases exceeded 82,100 across the world.

The virus was first detected in Wuhan city, Central China, in December 2019. It is believed to have originated from wild animals, passing to humans due to the wildlife trade and wet markets. The virus spread to other China provinces in early and mid-January 2020, helped by the Chinese new year migration.

WHO declared the new coronavirus outbreak as a Public Health Emergency of International Concern on January 31.
