US coronavirus: 1878 people die in a single day
The U.S. records the most COVID-19 deaths in a single day, with more than 1,800 fatalities, according to Johns Hopkins University.
The number of deaths from the virus have reached 16,686, an increase of 1878 in the past 24 hours.
33,861 new cases were confirmed with coronavirus, taking the total number of confirmed cases to 466,299 in the country.
New York, the epicenter of the pandemic in the US, has the highest number of fatalities, with more than 7,000 deaths.
The U.S. has the highest number of confirmed cases, followed by Spain, Italy and Germany.
The coronavirus pandemic, which was first identified in Wuhan, China, has until now infected 1,633,083 people, killing more than 98,387 worldwide.
A total of 366,673 patients have so far recovered and have been discharged from hospital.
